Entrepreneurship, Financial Management, and Life Skills Program

Over 43 business owners have started or grown businesses. To date the estimated economic impact as a result of this program is $528,547 and will continue to grow.

The $1,000 Start-Ups Entrepreneurship, Financial Management and Life Skills program and micro-business incubator is offered at no cost, with small business start-up or growth funding of up to $1,000 to those who complete the program.

By the end of the program the new businesses are registered and launched, and the cohort has had opportunities to get feedback and display with area small businesses who are invited to display at three of our four annual small business fairs.

It takes a lot of courage to start a business, particularly when you don’t have a lot of time or money to invest.  The $1,000 Start-Ups Entrepreneurship, Financial Management, & Life Skills program reduces that risk by offering a step-by-step program, a cohort of people on the same journey, and start-up funding up to $1,000.

Small Business Fairs

In the first four years of operation, more than 100 businesses have participated in our small business fairs with an estimated economic impact of $289,922.

We conduct four small business fairs each year in traditionally underserved communities and public spaces as an integral part of our entrepreneurship, financial management, and life skills training program.

The fairs have several purposes:

  • The students in the program introduce their new businesses to the community and assess the viability of the products or services.
  • To provide a venue for area small businesses to grow their customer base and revenue.
  • To introduce businesses to and bring money into traditionally underserved communities
  • By displaying with other small businesses, cohort members and small business owners network, learn from each other, provide referrals and share additional venue opportunities.

There is no cost to display; however, there is a $25 deposit that is redeemable as Fair Bucks to spend at the fair or refunded as cash at the end of the fair.
