Our 2024 Program Begins on May 8!

APPLICATIONS FOR THIS PROGRAM YEAR ARE CLOSED.

The $1,000 Start-Ups Program occurs once each year with a group of entrepreneurs with a vision for starting their own business. The curriculum provides education, resources, and support for  entrepreneurship, financial management, and life skills offered at no cost to adults with up to $1,000 business start-up funding.

The Program is open to anyone over the age of eighteen.  Candidates selected for the program must be able to support themselves, or have a means of support, for at least two years after launching their business.

Two weekly one hour meetings held virtually via Zoom.

$1,000 Start-Ups offers the training, tools, and coaching to provide what’s needed at each business stage, including:

  • Making the decision to start a business
  • Deciding what business is right for you
  • How to minimize your financial investment
  • How to build your brand
  • How to market your business
  • Registering you business and taxes
  • How to operate profitably

How It Works:

PHASE I:
Set Yourself and Your Business Up For Success

  • Entrepreneurship, Financial Management, and Life Skills Training. (Zoom and In-Person)
  • Each week’s homework applies what you’ve learned in the virtual incubator as you establish your business and prepare to run it successfully.
  • Prototype Fair: Moves your business from concept to reality with the Cohort, displaying your products or service concept to friends, family, grantors, donors, and Consortium members.

PHASE II:
Launch Your Business, Build Your Network and Customer Base

  • Classes continue through Phase II so you can immediately apply what you learn to your successful business launch.
  • Small Business Fair I: Display with area businesses. After the fair, review results with the class
  • Small Business Fair II: Promote your business with social media and display with area businesses.
  • Small Business Fair III: Display with area businesses and celebrate your Graduation.
